The Valencian magazine Economía 3 organised this round table, which was attended by representatives of the Generalitat Valenciana and the private chemical and plastics sector

Yesterday our CEO Vicente Olmos participated in the round table “The importance of the chemical and plastic sectors for the Spanish economy” of the publication Economía 3. This meeting, between public representatives and the private chemical and plastics sector, analysed the consequences of the entry into force of the new Law on Waste and Contaminated Soil.

“We are constantly developing new products that meet the needs of our customers but we need these kinds of taxes to be clear and organised,” Sintac CEO Vicente Olmos stressed at the business meeting. “We have been taking care of the environment for more than 30 years. For us it is not a job, it is an obligation that we assume as one of SINTAC’s fundamental missions.”

Innovation, new technologies and cooperation are three fundamental axes of the plastics industry, as Empar Martínez, Regional Secretary for Sustainable Economy of the Generalitat Valenciana, underlined in her speech: “There is still a lot to do, as the regulations do not make it easy for us. Let’s work together to be able to face it: digitalising systems and generating instruments to simplify management in the face of the complexity of the regulation”.

Another of the main themes of this forum was the economic consequences of the new legislation on the final price of the recycled product and how it will affect the consumer, as well as the complexity of applying the new law in companies. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Technological Institute of Plastics – AIMPLAS, the Valencian Association of Plastics Entrepreneurs (AVEP) and companies in the sector such as Quimeltia, Netafim and Endemic Biotech.

The new Law on Waste and Contaminated Land for a Circular Economy, which came into force at the beginning of the year, applies a tax on single-use plastic packaging. From now on, the amount of recycled plastic contained in the products will have to be certified. The Spanish government expects to raise 456 million euros with this new legislation. Companies in the plastics and chemical sector warn that the tax will reduce the competitiveness of the Spanish business fabric, as other European governments have ruled out or postponed the implementation of this tax.

For 30 years, SINTAC has been offering a wide range of recycled, sustainable and circular plastic materials, polyethylenes and polypropylenes, mainly for plastic containers and packaging used by the basic chemical industry, the paint sector and the cleaning and related products sector, among others, such as bottles, demijohns, industrial drums, buckets and boxes.

Since 2021, SINTAC has been part of the GCR GROUP, which has allowed us to reinforce and expand our offer, both in terms of the range of qualities of recycled PE and PP plastic materials of different grades, and in terms of laboratory equipment and facilities for developing material research projects, tailored to the needs of our customers. SINTAC offers recycled materials and consultancy services for sustainable projects that ensure a true circular economy.

SINTAC has a Quality and Logistics department that controls the traceability of material flows. It has ISO 9000 quality and ISO 14000 environmental certifications, as well as Environmental Communication and Marketing and Circular Economy Projects departments. Therefore, SINTAC is much more than just recycling plastics: it is a benchmark in the plastics sector at a national level, firmly committed to the circular economy and care for the environment.
